I saw this updated remote being advertised yesterday and went ahead and ordered one. Will see how it functions. I might use it to replace my remote used on my Roku Ultra. I have multiple Streaming Stick Pluses(the 4k models) and the remotes these ship with EAT batteries. I’ve had the remotes warranty replaced by Roku but still eats batteries.

The remote is over priced. $15 would be more appropriate

Hi. Please help me. I had a 10+ yo Panasonic that died. Sure wish I still had it. Someone suggested an ONN Roku TV. So I bought one. Remote that came w/ it didn’t have voice control. Due to health issues, I must have v. control, so ordered a Roku Voice Remote Pro. No matter what I do, I can’t get the battery cover off (it does not have the ‘3 ridges’ or lines) to do anything suggested to me online that has to do w/ getting under the batter cover. I’ve done what I thought was "pair’ the remote, but my voice commands are not working. I’m 70 with zero tech knowledge. I’ve been trying to get this dadgum thing to work for days & hours now. It’s all very, VERY frustrating & makes me just wanna donate this 1 to a nursing home or wherever & buy a Panasonic or another brand. I detest this thing.

The fact there’s an HBO Max button when the app has been renamed Max for a YEAR makes it outdated right out of the gate.

The following is a deal breaker for me, and should be for many others as well, this is an earlier comment from another reader:

Yeah the new Roku remote is ok but what really got me mad was with the "old" remote you could program any sound bar into it & everything was great, all in one remote. When I called Roku asking if someone could help me get the volume hooked to the remote they said they changed the new remotes programming to only work with the Roku products. So they want me to get rid of my sound bar, they said sorry, the volume for using this remote will only work with Roku speakers & sound bar ."

recieved my remote couple of days ago. unless I’m doing something wrong, can’t seem to assign 2 aps for me to choose with the rocket short cut button. even though roku says we can. plus I’m not seeing the menu to ch choose the bluetooth setting from the remote. Is this happening for anyone else?

  7. @amazingeric97 on November 13, 2024 at 12:27 pm

I already have three of the original Roku Pro Rechargeable remotes. I only have to charge the remotes every couple of months. I believe this Roku Pro Remote 2 will probably be included with the Roku Ultra in the future. Currently I will stay with the Original Roku Pro Remote for now.

  8. @stevedubay3097 on November 13, 2024 at 12:28 pm

It sounds like Roku is giving users 2 choices; replaceable batteries that it drains very quickly or rechargeable batteries that aren’t replaceable. The next set of batteries that need replacement I’ll be switching to a fire stick or Apple TV.

  9. @GeorgeDinsmore on November 13, 2024 at 12:29 pm

It’s funny to me that the new remote has HBOMax which hasn’t existed under that name in months

  10. @dalerethke8743 on November 13, 2024 at 12:34 pm

They need bluetooth like chromcast 4k even the walmart ONN 4K you can listen to tv through headphones ear buds etc
    Roku is behind is streaming

  11. @WillHendersonTX on November 13, 2024 at 12:34 pm

i just bought this remote at Walmart earlier this week, bought it cause of the rechargeable battery built in to it, but i’m trying to get hands free to work but it does nothing, not even saying "Hey Roku", sure it has no headphones jack, but i hardly use it on the old voice remote that came with my Roku Ultra that i bought 2 years ago that i had reprogrammed to my TCL Roku TV, but i do like the backlight and the quick launch and being able to open the guide with the guide button. but so far, i am happy with it enen if i can’t get the hands free mic working .

  12. @dozn1111 on November 13, 2024 at 12:36 pm

? Is it just for roku tvs or can it be used on an roku ultra?

  13. @driza97 on November 13, 2024 at 12:36 pm

nice breakdown. just orderd me one. yep.

  14. @madmax2069 on November 13, 2024 at 12:40 pm

I refuse to buy any remote that has built in rechargeable non user replaceable batteries, it may work well at forst but once the battery start not holding a chage the remote basically becomes useless, it’s also an e waste issue as most will just toss the remote into the trash/bin.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with using AA or AAA batteries in the remotes.

  15. @vbaron75 on November 13, 2024 at 12:41 pm

Can I pair it with a Roku streamer or only to a Roku TV?

  16. @bobbipink8074 on November 13, 2024 at 12:43 pm

  17. @Schwaka on November 13, 2024 at 12:43 pm

No idea why they won’t just let people reprogram their buttons. I don’t use any of the streaming services on my remote, so the bottom half of my remote is useless. I’ll accidentally hit one once in a while, then I have to reopen what I was watching.

  18. @driza97 on November 13, 2024 at 12:43 pm

look like the latest roku os 13 update is going to add the features of being able to assign 2 aps to the 1 rocket shortcut button, as well as the setting to connect to bluetooth. yep.

  19. @MikeGentry on November 13, 2024 at 12:43 pm

This thing would probably pay for itself in disposable batteries alone. I went as far as paying for some rechargeable batteries for my Roku remotes but the issue there is, no low battery warnings. They just work one minute and without warning …nothing. My only question is for Roku, What took so long?

  20. @bigkahuna6277 on November 13, 2024 at 12:43 pm

As far as I am concerned this remote is 2 thumbs down. I use the headphone jack all the time and I am not a fan of rechargeable batteries. I have had too many issues with these batteries not charging as they get older. 1 set of replaceable batteries lasts me almost a year. I will stick with the older remotes.

  21. @UdoU-k2b on November 13, 2024 at 12:44 pm

I actually called Roku to see if I could get any of the older remote with the headphone jack. In my opinion, the built in battery, no headphone jack, just those two things makes this inferior and probably will need replacing more often due to the lithium ion battery that has about a two year lifespan. I’ve use the same 4 eneloop rechargable AA’s for four years and just rotate them out in pairs when the remote, which uses a ton of battery power, runs out of power. Bluetooth is not nearly as reliable and using your phone for me is a backup solution not as easy as plugging in a set of buds. I’m with Spectrum and a Xumo streaming device doesn’t hold a candle to the Roku Ultra 4K. Not to mention paying monthly? Please! Roku is going the wrong direction….

  22. @robertu7352 on November 13, 2024 at 12:44 pm

I agree the price makes it not worth it. Most of the new features I will never use. My current TVs all have Rokus connected as does my TCL-Roku TV. I am happy with all but like you said if I broke a remote
perhaps if I couldn’t find a less expensive replacement I might buy this new one. Thanks for the review and all you do daily plus.

Would you please let me know what kind of antenna you have? I just dont know which one to get thank you..

  25. @driza97 on November 13, 2024 at 12:49 pm

thinking since we don’t have the roku os 13 on are roku tvs or sticks yet, we wont see the opptions of assigning 2 aps to the 1 roket shortcut button. or won’t see the option of choosing bluetooth. still enjoy the remote though.

  26. @JohnGanio-h8l on November 13, 2024 at 12:49 pm

Can I use this as a second remote on the same Roku? Like one in the kitchen and one in the TV room?

  27. @driza97 on November 13, 2024 at 12:50 pm

received the o.s 13 on my tcl roku 43 and 50 inch 4 series this morning. now I’m able to launch 2 aps that I can choose from, from the rocket shortcut button on the roku pro2 remote. the only feature that isn’t there is the bluetooth settings. guess that may be only for the roku plus, pro, and select series of tv’s.

  28. @Gh0stbumbles on November 13, 2024 at 12:57 pm

it not having a headphone jack is a pass for me. unfortunately. it comes in handy watching TV at night when people are asleep

  29. @RonnieRockafella on November 13, 2024 at 12:57 pm

Finally, Roku listened 🎶 USB-C & Backlit buttons gets 2 thumbs 👍 👍 from me

  30. @derekvallem on November 13, 2024 at 12:58 pm

How do you program the quick launch button to open two different apps? Thanks for the review.

  31. @gtsuby on November 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm

Pass. 1) No headphone jack 2) One-touch buttons removed. We are fans of being able to turn on the TV and having our Roku Ultra go straight to YouTube TV with a single selection of a programmable button. Looks like that feature is gone. Programing one buttons for two actions is nice, but looks to add another step when starting the TV from the button.

Are you able to plug usb-c wired earphones into the usb-c in replacement for the missing headphone jack? My wife refuses to use wireless earbuds. Thanks.

  36. @dennismarshall6239 on November 13, 2024 at 1:06 pm

The no headphone jack is a deal killer.

Does anyone know if you can change the rechargable batteries when they die, as I read a few reviews where it stopped charging within a few months.
