Ive been trying to find a brand to replace my existing cameras with. Ive been using 3 Noorio Wifi cameras that do work but they have way too short of a recording time. My house is tiny so wifi has been working.

In new house I moved into, they left behind 2 Wyze V3 camera’s and 1 Netgear Arlo.

This video is what I was searching for. Thank you.

Home owner here looking for something and found this video most helpful. I am still struggling to figure out what I really need, but these were outstanding things to think about.

Other than Alibi, what other brands do you recommend I consider for wired NVR system?

  7. @craigbrabant4938 on November 13, 2024 at 12:20 pm

Excellent information & video. Still confused. I’m a truck driver, basically want to deter or report. I drive across country so I want them to see the cameras & move on or if not, record them. I don’t have internet at home just a mobile hotspot that travels with me, so I can’t have wi-fi cameras but the thought of drilling holes in my walls for wired camera makes me ill. I will be checking your other video for info & solutions but thx for this info

  8. @b22091 on November 13, 2024 at 12:21 pm

Some things I considered that wern’t on the list 1) Camera frame rate for day and night, Lens effective aperture, how compressed is the image (4k WiFI for example), and total cost to get all the services I wanted. Manufacturers like to bury costs in fine print.

  9. @darrenstettner5381 on November 13, 2024 at 12:27 pm

Could you explain more about how the non-pro grade cameras come up short? Other than maybe resolution, what could functionally be different?

  10. @DR-um2bv on November 13, 2024 at 12:31 pm

So what are the brands to go with .

Great informative presentation, any suggestion on a wireless outdoor camera that I can access with my cellphone when not at home? I’m currently using the Blink 4 outdoor system but I find it just okay at best. Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

  13. @MrRafa108 on November 13, 2024 at 12:35 pm

George, thank you for this excellent vid. I’m tired of the Wi-Fi cameras and been thinking about hardwired. Great job in explaining it all. I wish you continued success.

  14. @blender_wiki on November 13, 2024 at 12:36 pm

As a security consultant, I recommend the following guidelines:

    A. WiFi vulnerabilities: WiFi is inherently insecure and susceptible to hacking. Always consider alternative, more secure options for critical applications.

    B. Analog vs. digital systems: For maximum security, an analog setup is preferable, as any digital device is potentially vulnerable to hacking or malware.

    C. Privacy considerations: If privacy is a concern, avoid using cameras and instead consider alternative sensors for surveillance that respect privacy while providing security.

    D. Reliability for critical systems: A 1% failure rate is unacceptable for critical security systems. Ensure all equipment meets a high standard of reliability.

    E. Camera resolution: High resolution is only necessary if you need to accurately identify people or vehicles. Consider your specific needs before investing in high-resolution equipment.

    F. Real-time vs. recorded identification: Decide whether you need to identify subjects or vehicles in real time or if it can be done after recording. This will influence equipment and setup choices.

    G. Night vision: Always add an external infrared illuminator for effective night vision, as this improves visibility and image quality in low-light conditions.

Do you need subscription for the cameras that you discussed?

  19. @tuscan440r on November 13, 2024 at 12:44 pm

Really useful video for someone who knows nothing about cctv. I’ve managed to get a shortlist of cameras quite quickly so thanks for sharing!

No subscriptions ever , no monitoring ever . Rip off joke industry that you can’t sue. Crooks monthly charge , they are stealing irony .

  28. @Alex.In_Wonderland on November 13, 2024 at 12:53 pm

legitimately the only reliable resource I’ve found so far. I understand that this question is a hail mary, but I’ve got to try: What are your recommendations for a security system that covers all of these aspects? I’m sure there are probably none that cover everything, and if they come close, I’m sure they’re not budget friendly whatsoever, but I had to ask!

  29. @alexlevin5155 on November 13, 2024 at 12:55 pm

I think you missed the field of view. How wide does it go. I had a house where you could sneak by the camera above the door. Walk around it on the side and then stand close to the door…

  30. @Harpic123 on November 13, 2024 at 12:55 pm

George, im installing in a wet and winy Scotland. Really appreciate your guidance vdeo.
Can you perhaps elaborate on the camera IP rating. Ive tried IP44 and its not up to the weather. Now going for IP65. Do you have any preference ?

We currently building our home in TX Hill country and researching POE camera systems . This some of the best information I have come across. I have subbed to your channel. Thanks for the wealth of information

  35. @francostacy7675 on November 13, 2024 at 12:58 pm

Why are so many Youtubers down on ring? My friends have two of them out in the country and they pay for a $10 plan because they want to monitor it and not have anybody else watching. Seems to work. They set it up themselves and it’s wireless and they can see the place.

That’s all I want. I want four cameras outside one inside my garage with ability for me to watch it while I’m inside or while I am remotely away. I want to be able to go back and look at past videos. I am not worried about the sophisticated high-tech criminal, I am more concerned about trespassers and thugs and I want to be able to see who when and where day or night

I will be my monitor and I will be my police. I don’t want anybody showing up automatically. I don’t want anybody calling me. I don’t want anybody looking through my cameras. I don’t need big brother, and if I want the cops, I will call them.

SOMEBODY PLEASE TELL ME THE SYSTEM THAT MEETS MY NEEDS …

  36. @evamz9584 on November 13, 2024 at 12:59 pm

Can I even afford alibi? We want to get cameras and do it right the first time.

  37. @cwkhonda on November 13, 2024 at 12:59 pm

Good video. I’ve done my share of installs myself. I agree with what you say, however. I just looked at reolink systems and they seem priced a bit less than lorex. I currently have a lorex 16ch, and it works. Not Poe. But it cost more than reolinks pop 8ch. 2k. I’m just curious as to why reolink seems on the lower side of cost? I just looked at there 4k poe 16 ch. And pretty shocked it’s under 800.

  38. @blue.hawaii on November 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm

How about linking this to an existing NVR?

  39. @debbieblake6864 on November 13, 2024 at 1:00 pm

I’m always left confused about how to set it up.And which ones to buy?No matter how many times I listen to these videos. What is an average cost if you have someone install for you?Just a ballpark, if you could please. I’m in southern california.

  40. @geomatrix5452 on November 13, 2024 at 1:01 pm

All EXCELLENT tips and to the point! I love it when someone gets straight to the point. I’ve been using Reolink cameras for a number of years. Bought the cheapest one for hobby purposes and ended up with several better models and a total of 12 now. I’m a serious believer of wired and/or POE system. WiFi tends to be sketchy depending on your area (environment). Reolink has fairly decent cameras and they’re reliable but their home apps lack a lot of improvement…

Fun fact if your outdoor cameras are expensive they might be targets of theft themselves.

Looking for a system that will keep motion activated clips as well as available live viewing remotely when were not home but dont want cloud storage, i want all locally stored. How could we use an NVR system while getting alerts and live viewing remotely? Otherwise looking into ones with an SD card in the camera itself with viewing through the app. But if its viewable through the app, is it secure? Not in the cloud?
