Nakamichi was a legendary brand, and they’re back trying to compete with the likes of Samsung, LG, Sony and Sonos in the soundbar space while talking smack to high end brands like Bang and Olufsen and Sennheiser. Can their Home Theater in a box, the Nakamichi Dragon, actually hold up?

after finding out a few weeks ago that most content is just produced in 5.1.4 (7.1.4 on disk) and using just those placements with everything hardcoded. the processor to handle positional differences is barely doing anything now. because the positions have been baked in. im so disapointed that this is ahigh percentage of the streaming and disk content. but… if youre gaming… man does having more speakers and more processing help =D
I install 300k systems the world of audio is vast. And there will always be a better system.
How does the Sonos Arc sound against the Vizio Elevate?
where do you gt these Dolby Atmos demo?
In reality most of your viewing is streamed content so 5.1 is all you need. I had 7.1 hooked up for a while just a waste. So bi-amped my front towers and run 5.1 sounds great.
I hope hisense ssturn can top these sonys or are the same with a lower price
for the price, based off of the binaural audios, the nakamichi beats it out of the water, it doesnt have as good lows, but its lost in the amount of money youre saving, for a high end tv room, not theatre room, its perfect.
It’s sad that with everything bearing the Atmos badge? You still have to use some old demo to get those speakers working hard
Dear Linus, now add a Bose Soundbar ultra into the mix, also add the rear speakers and 2 woofers. Then see how you feel.
My 2 x Sonos Gen 3 subs are out of this world. Tight, sharp and hard felt base. Im not that impressed with my Arc
Dude. You’re watching a TV in front of you. Isn’t weird to hear a sound from behind? Even in big screen like cinemas. It is weird.
Unless you’re gaming.
For me, a good sounding 3.1 is enough for movies.
I own a Samsung 990c for my two rooms flat and it’s an absolutely amazing sound experience for the great offer that I got if for and that was 500 Euro in Romania .Got a lately Black Friday offer for an in store product for display . Although is was on shelf ,it was brand new, with all it’s accessories and box .Just a little bit of dust on it,but other than that it was a super great offer!
Yeah but…….the home theater option is scalable and you can swap in speakers etc.
not only that, but the home theater option is going to sound WAY better for music.
now its bass bup bup bup, 30 years ago it was boom boom boom. bought 20 year old system and nothing today for the average consumer can compare. sonos, bose, are you kidding me
Which scene from what movie was the very first part?
Well Linus deserve’s this new sound bar. Even though he has a $13,000 sound system, a new $4,000 sound bar is more than welcome in his house. Sounds fair to me…… How about everyone else?
what if the soundbar fail? 3k to the t
rash……………….i had one of their basic soundbar, and died just after warranty pass………..goes into the trash
Anyone know the Bose speaker he referred to
Sir, your opinions are too much sponsored
It’s $4000. On top of that, a soundbar is just never going to give you the oomph that you will get from a receiver with separates. That has been my experience comparing some decent-to-expensive soundbar systems to a cheap 5.1 system I put together. Generally, a soundbar is intended to be small, sleek and give better sound over the speakers without spending too much money.
The subwoofers from svs are far superior.
Yeah. That’s not really only a soundbar though is it.
Thank God I saw this video. I had 20k laying around and my first thought was.. Should I buy a 10k soundbar?. Or an entire system for 20k.
At the end I went for the 20k system, even if it is for my secondary theater those soundbars sounds awful.
Is this what you do when you have to much money?🤣
Calling that setup "a soundbar" is QUITE the stretch lol.. That’s a full-fledged home theater system.
I’m sorry but Linus needs to stick with entertaining the masses with computer geek stuff and leave audiophilea to real testers like those on Audio Science Review, GR Research, Audioholics, Erin and others. This is worthless without measurements. Maybe invest in a Klippel Near-Field Scanner before opening your yap.
I just wonder how much Nakamichi is paying for something like this.
If you changed your full system with soundbar it shows that you make only commercials, you have to be brainless to do such move nothing more
I am in the market for a new surround system.
Want: atmos and dts (hd and x) support because the tv I am going to buy can pass trough all of them and I dont want issues when a certain movie or series has one but not the other.
Therefore sonos is no option anymore because of lack of support of dts.
Config should be:
One sub
Left center right
Leftback and rightback
And 2 upfiring atmos (cant place them on ceiling).
Also the speakers front must be placable on the tv furniture so I cant have towers.
Any suggestions??
Budget around 2000 euro max.
Wiring or no wiring is not an issue.
What about teufel audio such as thx and the reflects..?
I have the Nakamichi Soundwafe Ultra and I love it. They offer the Dragon with Quad 12" subs.
I like soundbars for what they are, but unless you REALLY need the space savings and have lots of money to waste, I wouldn’t spend more than $400 on one, because that’s about the most sound you’re going to get out of them. Beyond that, you might get "better sound," but it’ll always have the qualifier "for a soundbar." For example, a soundbar can physically never achieve front stage sound separation/precision to rival a discrete system, at least not authentically/accurately. That alone is a big loss.
All that said, I don’t think you need to spend much to get genuinely impressive and enjoyable sound if you’re going full home-theater, either. A decent midrange AVR and some affordable Dayton Audio speakers (some of which have the folded tweeter design that shined on the Nakamichi) and sub (ideally two, for balance and coverage), and that’ll please almost anyone who isn’t a price snob. Setup is at least 50% of the game, and frankly I think many people would be surprised at how much better the speakers they already have can sound with a little tuning/positioning.
As I mentioned earlier, though, I think soundbars definitely have their place, primarily at the low end. We’ve run several soundbars and I’m honestly impressed with what Vizio’s soundbars will get you for the money. If you just want pleasant, real surround sound in a compact and easy package, Vizio does a whole system pretty well for less than or barely more the cost of some of the most basic name-brand 5.1 receivers by themselves. They are about the cheapest way into surround sound while still being worth listening to. Beyond that, when space isn’t an issue, I steer people toward those "home theater in a box" packages which, despite the scoffs they get from the snobbier self-proclaimed "audiophiles," actually tend to be pretty darn good for a palatable price for casual enthusiasts.
It’s just a product that put the name of a bankrupt Audio company on a Chinese speaker.
A sound bar will never sound better. Than a true 5.1 system never ever 😊
You clickbait us with ‘sounbar’ and then you showed us a square meter of extra speakers. You like my ex.
Soundbar can’t play proper stereo so can’t play 5.1 3d system or 7.1 and more atmos. Soundbar is weak central speaker only. Small drivers do shit.
Hope their High End is better thant their low end. At my store we use to sell Car radio (Nakamichi) and from 6 brand, its the only brand who had 60 % RMA ( Stop working after couple Month )
Me: still using an 18 year old LG surround system to watch this😅 I could sc
Actually hear a difference, but the Other one wins🎉
Denon AVR that you are using does not have enough power to power all your speakers appropriately. You need a better AVR or AMPS.
Compare it to Sennheiser Ambeo.
You want to find professional audio gear but you are looking in the wrong spot my friend.. Better try active studio monitors. Take 8" version like Mackie, Yamaha or maybe ADAM(7" has that ribbon tweeter that you like), add a 10-12" sub (From the same brand), buy 2 stands and let it rip.. I have 2 8" Mackies and I’m set for life 😀. This sound bars don’t have enough room to put in a proper SUB.. 5" is no sub.. It would have to be moving about 2 inches to move enough air to call it a sub.. 8" mids, 10-12" sub and lil 1-2" tweeters.. Thats the proper set up for frequencies.. Looking forward for a new audio video 👍
With my tinnitus I sadly no longer hear the difference.
Can anyone plese help me find the "Log Off" t-shirt he is wearing?
Dan walking backwards at 0:34
It’s… UGLY😅
Didin’t SVS give all that to you?
To be fair they are setting a big room that no sound bar should be used in lo
Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, I did custom car audio installations for the competitive USAC teams. Nakamichi was well known for their highly crisp and clear head units. Widely used the in the SQ division on the competition scene.
The fact you have a 13k home theater system makes me rethink my life.
"Lets see if they should’ve stayed buried"
