LG G-8, had palm unlock.
There is going to be no need for device specific battery packs like the Lockly as there are already USB-C recharable AA(A) and CR123A batteries.
I rather have the option of being able to use regular batteries just to be safe in the future. Especially with smart home companies, they could be gone the moment you bought your product.
About 9 years ago I used locks from Quickset I think. It recognized my phone as i approached the door and unlocked. If my phone was on me i could also touch the lock anywhere and it would lock it. So I am perplexed you mentioned a lock coming soon with this. Is quickset not offering it anymore?
@smarthomesolver – hey Reed, you mentioned that lifx bulbs can display different colours simultaneously – does it work via home assistant? Sorry wrong video but can’t remember where you said it. Thanks from Poland!
It’s nice, but Aqara had this for years. Not sure why not any YouTubers cover those locks
Loved the idea of door bell on the lock, wish there was a camera too…
You-S government will say national security threat
What about Brute Force to remove them as they stand up …?
The problem with these locks is that they are not hidden. This way a burglar knows exactly what lock is installed and where the lock is etc. Not very smart. A true smart lock should be completely invisible. It’s smart in terms of convenience but not in terms of maximum security, if that’s your priority.
try using a video of your face on the face lock
What if you change your facial hair ?
Home assistant? Will only buy if it’s compatible and local, no cloud.
does it work with home assistant
We love our smart lock but will only purchase smart locks that don’t have a manual/old school keys. Easier to pick and they aren’t needed.
Locks that detect one is near and open have been around for years. That’s not new at all.
Kreiger Bypass
scan palm to unlock your door is not practical for your other members in the family
The Lockly is very well designed. The Phillips…not so much. It’s a hard pass with those batteries.
Very good
My Yale Doorman L3S unlocks when I get close to it. As long as I have ny phone with me. Love it.
5:10 You should test a video of your hand or face.
Wonder if there is an upgrade for an explosive charge as a back up if you get locked out?
I ordered the Lockly with your Home Depot link. I can’t figure out how to add it to Apple Home. The app just keeps saying incorrect code. Any ideas? I tried it manually and by scanning the QR
I didn’t catch if Lockly Visage supports Matter?
It would be great if either of these could be incorporated into a gun safe!
I watch your reviews and love them. We have been waiting to purchase a smartlock but we had crappy wifi. We now have fiber and immediately clicked your link for the Lockly Visage when I saw your review. All downhill from there. The app won’t work, no one answers the calls at customer service no matter how long I wait and I get robo responses from the emails. We can’t even set it up. Do you have any in roads? Heeelp
The Lockly seems great! And in your video there didn’t seem to be a bad lag time. Consistency has to rate highly for any lock, especially on the main entrance. That’s where I have trouble moving away from the Yale and Schlage products to try something that might not be as reliable.
Holy shit – who knew Nick Swardson knew so much about smart home tech.
Ok. Now they should do guns.
I have purchased one and installed it a week ago. It’s a FANTASTIC piece of hardware. The Home Lockly app is very buggy so I deleted it and installed their ‘regular’ phone app on my Android phone and it works well. The battery life he describes is accurate based on how much the battery has drained in a week. Great that they include two and they charge via USB C.
I thought I finally found a lock that was better than a quickset mechanical keyset but alas I didn’t. It uses facial recognition like Apple’s, not Android which is easily fooled, and has a door sensor so it doesn’t lock when the door is open, and it doesn’t auto-lock so the house doesn’t lock up on you when you go out to mow the lawn. You also don’t have to take your work or winterr gloves off to use the lock. Unless you own an Air-BNB, the others are less efficient than a standard kwickset mechanical lock. However, after you pay all of that money for the lock, it requires the Internet to work, plus they send all of your information to Google, Apple/Amazon as front companies for Big Brother, who compensates them for the information. There is no technical reason for this information to be sent off site.
So many real life problems with these things that potentially will leave you locked out your home.
The whole point in a lock is to prevent unwanted guests into your home, even if this does prevent sed unwanted guest getting in, they can very easily do plenty out of spite to do the same to you.
Not exactly hard to damage these things so they are unusable, smash the face reader, spray painting it (fixable but still locked out until you can) smash the screen that’s needed for a code input or the finger print reader.
All of the above and probably more can leave you locked out your home, could be someone not happy about not being able to break in or just malicious damage from someone.
You would also need battery back up on your WiFi connection or you’ll again be locked out during any power outage or even worse locked in an emergency like a fire in your home.
Far too many scenarios that makes these a massive problem IMO.
Can i wear a mask of someone face to get into the lock? Does the palm one work with another person? There was no test on that
👍 just for the Tommy Boy ref
Were you able to get the Visage to work with Home assistant. I want this lock but wont order unless they fully integrate with HA
I bought and have installed the lockley visage it works very well as described, but I am extremely disappointed that it does not integrate with either home assistant or IFTTT. The status of the lock being locked or unlocked should be something I can see plainly in my home assistant dashboard.
could you ask where the data for your biometrics are stored for both devices?
Love the review and these are great devices, but are they hack proof?
"You had me at the Farley reference." Says the man with a Callahan Auto Parts decal on his back glass 29 years after the movie.
A thing I think is important to remember is that a lock should only make it inconvenient enough for someone to try to break in elsewhere, or to use another method (like a window, which is usually covered by insurance)
These are dope! Having your door unlock when it detects your phone is a terrible idea. If someone gets your phone then you’re screwed.
Do you think we’ll see more deadbolts that unlock with your biometrics? ✋👍👁
Nice video and interesting content, but given we use our garage entrance, a simple keypad works great for visitors rather than dishing out this kind of money without added benefits for them.
You mentioned that in the future we’d get smartphone unlock, we already have locks with auto unlock feature like the Yale assure.
$300 door lock!? Nope. Gonna need this money for a PS5 Pro.
I’d love to combine these smart locks with a regular security camera that has person recognition. If the camera detects me and the lock detects my palm or face, good to go. I’d also love to have the active side of the lock on the wall, instead of on the door. Batteries for devices like this suck, no matter how convenient they are.
About the security tests: try pictures taken from further away, i.e. a picture of most of your arm and most of your upper body. I’d love to see if the security still is good when you fill the entire POV of the lock’s camera with a picture, so it has no outside clues that it’s looking at a picture. It honestly wouldn’t surprise me if some of these companies just programmed in something that the lock won’t open if they see a rectangle, like an ipad or a picture printed on a sheet of paper.
What product were you using for doorbell?
it would be cool to know if the camera has other usages… like request remote open the door, take pictures of ppl at the door, video conference, can the camera be added to the built in security of the household "?", etc. Thanks
Does the Lockly connect to Home Assistant threw the HomeKit device integration? I have the Lockly 728z and it’s pretty awesome.
My Phillips one from years ago has face detection and a camera! With a screen for viewing the outside 🙂
